This section provides information for researchers, development promoters, policy makers, and business persons about opportunities for international cooperation funded by national and international agencies and non-governmental organizations from Latin America and the Caribbean. Emphasis will be given to news about events and opportunities for collaboration between Canadians and Latin Americans.

News

  • The Inter-American Foundation (IAF)
Invites proposals for its grant program. The IAF funds the self-help efforts of grassroots groups in Latin America and the Caribbean to improve living conditions of the disadvantaged and the excluded, enhance their capacity for decision-making and self-governance, and develop partnerships with the public sector, business and civil society. The IAF does not identify problems or suggest projects; instead it responds to initiatives presented. Projects are selected for funding based on their merits rather than by sector.

  • IAF Fellowships
This fall the IAF will accept applications for its 2008-2009 awards from students in the social sciences, physical sciences, technical fields and the professions as they relate to grassroots development issues. IAF fellowships provide international transportation to the field research site, a monthly stipend for a maximum period of 12 months and a research allowance. Fellows must have advanced to Ph.D. candidacy by the date they begin their IAF-sponsored research.
