Who we are
Executive summary
This project seeks primarily to build knowledge partnerships between North and South, specifically between Canadian and Latin American research and training institutions, in order to contribute to a culture of collaborative knowledge building. To do so, it will design, test and demonstrate a model structure to enable on-going collaborative North-South and South-South learning in support of individuals, communities of practice and knowledge networks. The structure will integrate pedagogical approaches based on ICTs, short online courses, and online resources such as a virtual library and communication tools for project partners and for a wider audience. Through these avenues, the project intends to build a critical mass of mutually knowledgeable human resources in both Latin America and Canada.
The specific objectives include:
- To test, analyze and document different modes of collaboration with respect to designing, exchanging, adapting and delivering short-term non-degree online courses.
- To create a Portal as a supporting structure and a virtual library and electronic publications in support of online courses and information sharing and dissemination.
Potential beneficiaries will be Latin American and Canadian professionals and technicians; educators; graduate students and young professionals; private sector groups; government agencies, particularly foreign affairs services; and NGOs, development agencies and other civil society organizations in Latin America and Canada.
The project will be conducted by the Centro Boliviano de Estudios Multidisciplinarios (CEBEM) and University of British Columbia's (UBC)' Centre for Intercultural Communication (CIC).
